Cutting/turning an AR bolt?

I'm contemplating building a 6.8 spc ar-15, and I'm not seeing why a slightly larger bolt face is worth an extra $100.

Understanding that these are likely surface hardened as a final process before coating, is it asking for trouble to attempt to turn or mill a completed unit, or will carbide cut it nicely?

Take a file and see if it will make a mark first.

I believe they are through hardened 4140. Carbide will cut it with ease.

I'd rather not take a file to my current ar's bolt. :)

But since they cut nice, I'll probably take the plunge and buy another one. Then I'll have that one coated again after opening it up.
