I have a Colchester Master 61/2" centre lathe. Can anyone tell me what the tee slots in the top of the saddle are for? I can understand tee slots in the top of the cross sllide being a useful addition to any lathe but in 60 years of machining, I have never found a use for the ones in the saddle. The lathe's official handbook makes no mention of them.

After removing the cross slide, the T-slots can be used for fixturing a job piece for line boring.

About half way down are pictures: http://bbs.homeshopmachinist.net/showthread.php?t=27628&page=2&highlight=milling+lathe

The T slots can also hold a die head like you see on a pipe threading machine.
Makes for fast one pass threading of shaft or pipe.
