View Full Version : Help with R8 Arbor

I lost a good friend a few weeks ago, and he wife and son let me have a few of his tooling. First thig was a right hangle head attachement with horizontal milling attachement for a Bridg-port with misc slot cutting blades. Also was this arbor I can not figure how it comes apart. It is a Ralmike's Tools-A-Rama catalog number 190-2021. The little hole in the end is not an allen screw nor the one in the r8 side deep in the hole. It does however look like the thing deep in the hole should unscrew as it looks to be a threaded past it.

Tried turning the blade backwards? (Counter clockwise from bottom view)

Yes I also tried pliers on the smooth end while in a vise.

I bet the arbor itself goes through the shank and has a 7/16 - 20 UNF female thread. The drawbolt pulls the head against the saw holding it firmly. The reason why you can't turn the head is the arbor and shank are keyed together through the saw.

Try screwing a 7/16 bolt into the tapped hole and knock the arbor out of the shank. A few taps with a 4 oz ball peen will tell you if my hunch is correct.

Thanks for the help, I was able to get it apart. It looks like the back end of the collet was a splined end that was messed up after someone lost the wrench that went with it and used plieres. The splines are all but gone but with pliers on the back end I was able to remove a female draw bar that held the arbor shaft through the r8 collet. I would have posted pictures, but the camera is acting up. I will post when I figure it out.
