Can you update your profile to give a location? or at least a country? :)

Offhand, if you live in USA, id wager mcmaster if you don't mind paying a little more then you could find it elsewhere if you can be bothered to find somewhere else. Mcmaster sells everything.. *Sigh* they don't like to ship to.. anywhere else on earth however.

Ok, I have updated my location! I would like to find some tubing that has about a .070" id with about a 3/16 id in stainless, preferably an alloy that machines ok. M-C does not seem to have that combination. Would anyone out there know where I could get some? .070 id is important, but close to .187 OD is ok. M-C site keeps kicking me back out of the search results each time I look. But. This thread is about finding some ss tubing, not my lack of ability on the computer. Thanks.

Although I don't know if they handle exactly what you're looking for. Here's a link: http://www.onlinemetals.com/ Hope that's some help.

These guys will make it for you, but be prepared to buy a bunch or pay a big setup charge: Superior Tube Company (http://www.superiortube.com/)

Does it have to be stainless? hobbie stores have aluminum and brass.

316 for machinability.
Thanks,
Chris
That's an oxymoron. You do not want 316 if you want machinability. The common grade for machiniability is 303.

Ok, oxymoron, paradox or I spec'ed the wrong material, I simply want to find some 303 ss that has a .070"id and approximately 3/16 od. And I appreciate the suggestions given so far, but online, speedy and the like don't seem to have it. I don't want to buy in bulk, nor do I want a huge set up fee. I have some rod, and drilling it out takes some time, so I want some tubing.

I just wanted to find out if anyone here KNEW where I could find the stuff. Thought I'd ask here instead of Practical Machinist. Thought if I asked the question at PM, I would get, well, a lot of the responses I've gotten here so far. Inneresting.

Chris,

You can buy small qaunities but you WILL have to pay someones minimum order charge. The people that carry this are specialized industrial suppliers. They will sell retail but will charge minimums, Probably $ 100-175.00 lot.

Stainless tubing is sold by OD and wall thickness in wall sizes that are .016, .020, .028, .035, .049, .065, .083 etc.

You will NOT find 303 as the sulfur added to 303 makes it unsuitable to do the drawing necessary to make the tube.

316 and 304 should be avaiable.

Dover Tube, NJ

I am not affiliated but have done business withmost of the above.

BTW, don't ask for DOM as they don't make it in stainless steel. Carbon steel only with that process. You want to ask for seamless in what your looking for.
