Nothing to see really, it's just a pommel for a knife I made. I got the steel from Davidh, thanks David.
I got a shape I wasn't anticipating as I had my lathe speed too slow and when I tried to cut the steel it would cut but made my toolpost slowly turn. I'm wondering if this could be used to effect? sort of like a ball turner, I'll have to play around with it. I guess one problem is its non repeatable, with precision, so you only get one cut.
Uncle Pete gave me speed and feed info, Thanks Pete. Using Pete's suggestion I upped the speed and was able to cut without the toolpost moving and finished up the pommel.
I'm happy that I was able to grind my own tools shapes from HSS blanks.
I've got a RH turning, RH facing and a parting tool ground and they all work
:)
My facing tool leaves a clean face but I wanted a skull crusher pommel

Congrats! That looks like a real skull crusher to me.

Making your first "anything" is a real blast. Welcome to the club.

First turning from the lathe is always a good feeling. A better feeling is when you pay the beast off with a lathe job that pays.

I still dont know what that feels like. :)

Dont stop, keep posting.
