a friend has a taurus pt140 that he lost the front sight on. he asked me for help but i dont know what it had originally. it appears to have had a staked in sight like the old 1911s as it has a different colored piece of metal left in a small hole in the slide. i dont know if that piece is pressed in or threaded. i can make a sight blade with tenon but it would have to be silver soldered in. i cant find aftermarket replacements for this pistol but i have found dovetail sights for newer models. taurus says send it in.

From what I know about Taurus I would send it in. They fix their fire arms free for life, and usually send the repaired weapon back with an extra clip.
People say I'm getting crankier as I get older. That's not it. I just find I enjoy annoying people a lot more now. Especially younger people!!!

The exploded view from the manual, two jpgs below sorry they aren't very good quality, show a front sight screw and a rear sight screw. Might the original have been attached with a screw which is sheared/wrung off?

thanks, jeff. it seems you are right. after enlarging the pdf pic it looks like the sight has a dovetail at the rear secured by a screw at the front.my buddy said it always showed "daylight" between sight and slide before it disappeared. the slide does have a plunge-cut slot milled into the top but i never thought about a rear dovetail. if it showed "daylight" the sight or slot was over/under sized or the sight was slapped in and screwed down without checking fit. i have 2 taurus 1911s with (formerly) poor fitting front sights so slapped and screwed would be my guess. thanks, mike
