Saw this at the local county fair---------

For you Turks with straw still in your hair---------The new, New Holland (Ford) Boomer 8N, 50 HP tractor. Been 60 years now, so you may not be all that familiar with the original 'Red Belly'. Respected as the farm impliment that started a new era of how to replace the horse or mule team.

Retro? Think Chrysler's PT Cruiser, Chevrolet's HHR, Ford's Mustang

I wanted to see what the old one looked like. Here is the picture I found of a 1951 model, still running and for sale for $3000:

As many 8Ns that are still in use, I thought they where still in production.:p Tough little tractors, that's for sure.

A number of years back my wife and I were touring the Ford New Holland plant in PA where they were building some sort of farm equipment. I don't recall just now what sort but it was pretty interesting.

Anyway, as we went down one aisle I spotted a fellow running a Gleason Gear Hobbing machine and stopped to chat. I commented that I had run a similar machine when I was an apprentice at Pratt and Whitney Machine Tool. He replied that he had run that machine for years and I was the first person who came by that any idea of what it was doing.

The New Holland name in Guido's post triggered this stroll down memory lane.
