I've talked to about 10 foundries and they all seem to say they need a pattern for a part I would like cast.
So I looked into them and for the life of me I cannot see how they all (every one) justified $1200 for a pattern. They got really snyde when I asked if I could do anything (like supply a urethane pattern, precut).
Of the written quotes I did get back the parts are $20 for the pour, but the pattern is $1200-1600.
They all also said that hand ramming is 'cost prohibitive' (like $1200 for a dead simple pattern is not)... do foundries see the pattern charge as their real profit and the pour is basically done at cost or a little above?
My experience seems to not be unique...
