A warm breeze wafts into your nostrils the faint smell of burning motor windings and blood that mysteriously hang above twin tracks of plywood glory. The tracks seem to disappear into the distance as the sounds of over-amped warriors stretching their power cords strike your ear canal with a defiant scream. Itís the scene of the second Ohio Tool Racing Championships, happening August 21st at the Columbus Idea Foundry. THIS SATURDAY!

The blood, sweat, glory, and tools combine to bring you a spectacle worth watching. Power tool drag racing has become one of those curious past times that create smiles and badassery in both the folks watching and those DIYers crazy enough to complete. Our collective hat is off to the event itself and those who take part in it.

No fear? Once you start encouraging those 9" angle grinders to run like that, they get crazy ideas in their heads.

I'm thinking a cord whip, cardboard laminate, and a big fat tire would go a long ways. With a tension adjustment on a pulley-style CVT and you'd probably accelerate though the finish line.

We used to drag race belt sanders in high school shop class in the early 70's. The finish line was when they pulled the plug out of the wall - about 6 feet.

Are the really macho types going to drag race worm drive skll saws? With carbide tipped blades of course for extra traction?
That should result in some blood and glory, or is it gory, moments.

I saw some of this on TV last year, might have been a show called Recreation Nation that shows people doing fun, yet offbeat things for the hell of it, including bar stool downhill ski races. The power tool racing segment was a hoot to watch. These folks tricking out their tools to race against each other. :D

It was actually quite fun watching all that :)

Hmmm... I think I will just give my power tools another wipe over and put them back in their storage boxes.
