I got home yesterday after a three day tool collecting trip.

I bought an Elliot Progress 2G pillar drill, a Startrite Bandit 5 bandsaw and a Denford CNC Easymill.

For starters, here are pictures of the last being unloaded.

Many many thanks go to my friend Roy for his assistance and company on this 500 +mile round trip (we had to go from Burton on Trent to Sheffield twice!).

Nice machines landing at their new home. you must be happy over that, I like the greenery around your shop, out here its hot as hell and not fun to do much heavy work without sweat dripping in your eyes. Post pics once its all set up how you like it.

Pillar drill description on ebay;

PILLAR DRILL MADE BY GATE MACHINARY ENGLAND.

5 SPEED WITH A 3 QUARTER HP MOTOR 3 PHASE.

BEEN STOOD ABOUT TWELVE MONTHS.

WILL NEED A GOOD CLEAN ETC.

The table style gave me the clue that it was an Elliot drill and the lever on the side of the head meant it had a two speed gearbox. That meant it was probably a Progress model and would have a morse taper spindle. For 50 I thought it was worth a punt. A friend who lives not too far away from the seller collected it for me and I picked it up from his house.

It's very heavy, the collumn is solid not at tube. I think it will clean up Ok.

Rather nice Startrite bandsaw with 5 speed belt drive and even a Telemechinique VFD thrown in.

Yes, when you're back there it's easy to forget that I'm in a town, one street over from a large Hospital and two streets over from the M1 Motorway.

I just wish the access was a little easier. The entrance to the back access road is frequently obstructed by parked vehicles and I'm just about the only person who uses it, so the overgrowth would be a real problem if I cared about the paintwork on the Mondeo. That certainly got a workout on the trip. Its 1753cc Turbo Diesel engine cranks out just 85bhp and I was frequently foot to the floor and black smoking trying to maintain 50+mph on some long hills towing the 1200Kg load. I have in the past used one to tow nearly 2000Kg without problems, but that wasn't on the Motorways and I could just let the speed drop on hills.

One, you should change your location to lush countryside near Luton;

Two, it's downright misleading to post photos of your new machinery being chaperoned by your friend. At least get your backside into one of your shots;

Three, there's obviously not enough room at your place. Just deliver any surplus to me.

Good work !
