I am interested in brand recommendations for 1.25" dia boring bar(s).

I still have some work to do regarding application and insert geometry
but my starting point is boring through-holes and boring to shoulders
in aluminum and steel. It will be a bonus if I can find bars that share
the same inserts as my existing turning/facing holders.

Profiling may come later, but I anticipate I will want a different bar
for this.

Thank you,
Ken R.

Buy a Kennametal solid carbide, you can jam it through a solid plate with no starter hole at all on the lathe, that will prove the abuse it can take and make you money. They are real spendy but wont let you down. make a few phone calls and check prices.

Triangle inserts work for this, as do 80 degree diamond ones. The triangle holders come in different degrees of offset to do facing at the bottom of the bore.

I have mounted fly cutters on the ends of thick round bar stock for boring work.

Just bought some TMX (Bison) insert bars at work.1-1/4" with a TPU insert was $80.00 right at it,very pleased with them.

Thank you for the suggestions.

Kennemetal is on the list (although if I buy, I expect I will still cut pilot
holes.) I already have some TMX turning holders and am happy with
them, I will look for information about TMX boring bars.
