I was researching some boring head information today and landed on this old thread at PM. Turns out it's a bit of a gem:

Nifty trick.. Maybe i'll give it a shot when my 3" boring head finaly arrives..

that's a nice idea....a JS way of thinking....
Once was asked 'what does a machinist do'
answer...."solves problems/makes parts by working with what he has..."
Anyone can BUY parts....but few can design,work out tooling, and make them!!
remember that when u make out the bill...LoL.

I notice they didn't mention using the boring head as a ball turner ?

In the thread I linked to PM a boring head is used to turn a ball, but not as I've seen it more commonly done on a lathe with the boring head held in the tool post.
