I dropped the flywheel to my compressor while moving it and it cracked...

I tried the ebay and craigslist.. but no luck.. maybe using the wrong terms...

14" with is a 1.5 bore double V

Where to look?

Look in the boneyard of a compressor repair company.

Brase or weld the crack. Many a machine running for decades with repairs.

I dont think I mind the repair (dont have anything to do it with, could call on a friend but I have slightly abused his services lately), but was concerned with the weighting and throwing the thing off balance some...

If it's the flywheel, it's turning at crankshaft speed.

You balance a motorcycle crank because it's doing 6000rpm and some, and you're sitting on it.

Your compressor crank is doing more like 1000rpm, and you're not sitting on it (I hope !). I wouldn't have thought a bit of unbalance from 1/2oz copper, or even from a 5 thou misalignment, would make it start jumping all over the place.

Anyway, if it does turn out to walk across the floor, you can do a static balance on it with an axle and a pair of rough and ready knife edges. If the weld/braze is out of alignment, you can remachine the circumference. Shouldn't take too long - it's all rough machining.

You gotta pay for your mistakes, after all ! Bad luck.

Surplus Center:

13.75" double pulley (https://www.surpluscenter.com/item.asp?item=1-2BKH140&catname=powerTrans) - $58.00

1.5" hub (http://www.surpluscenter.com/item.asp?item=1-2913-150&catname=) - $4.49

Cheapest place I have found for larger size pulleys. Local place wanted over $300 for similar pulley.
