These seem at face value to be the bargain of the century anyone bought these let me know Something I would use sparingly. Alistair

Please don't look at the sun absolutely. If you look at the sun, your eyes may be ache and blind sometimes.

If JCHannum's post doesn't say it all. :D
...Not sure if these are the exact same units, but I asked about some of the ebay magnifiers in the past here. Take a look at this thread, see post #'s 16 and 19:

I would never consider buying anything like that without being able to try them out.
You know of a supplier of these things, go to them.

Seems a bit odd working from 20 inches to infinity. If they call them loupes, they should be available from 10 inches upwards.
And they don't say how heavy they are. No good if they keep dropping off yer hooter.
A good pair would hinge upwards out of the way, but I think a good dentist's pair would be more like £100 and more.
Otherwise, they maybe useful.

I took a look through the pair my dentist has. The image was awesome, sharp and clear. He told me that they cost $1800. No wonder the image was so good, for that sort of money, it better be.

These were even cheaper than those Ebay ones; free.
I was working for a medical fibreoptic lighting and imaging company when they decided to explore getting into the field of surgical telescopes. These were one of several prototypes. They're a fixed 4x magnification, and a 12" working distance (plane of focus). Other later models had co-axial illumination.
I made the frames in 1/8" thick aluminum, and bent them into shape using a top & bottom blocks of steel I had contoured for the edge profile of the lenses. I also made the temples. The hinges and nose piece were standard stock bought items. The close-fitting holes in the lenses (which could be prescription corrective ones upon request) were drilled in the glasses using a special fixture and diamond-plated core drills.
There's lots of internal parts I made inside those housings to hold lenses and prisms. I got these made to my own diopter, inter-pupil, and working distance measurements as part of setting up the process of measuring for individual doctors. The units were given to me as we used miscellaneous parts from different test batches from anodizing. You can see the different shades of color in the prism housings. One thing I am glad for is that the company used high-end lenses and prisms, so these are extremely bright and sharp.

If I had to buy these (so I was told) they would have cost over $2000. The ones with co-axial illumination (out to the subject via half-silvered prisms) were almost twice that.

No, Our economy hasn't bottomed so far yet.
Problem is, with this sort of magnifier, those residents north of Hadrians wall have no excuse for not being able to see inside the bottom of their sporrans.
Yorkshire pockets are deep (and dark), so no problems for us.
Regards Ian.
