A friend of mine has a South Bend model 9 that needs some service.
Wondering if any one has any info on a parts source for this machine as well as a parts breakdown.

Take a look at the book by our member SWBrooks:

Go to the practical machinist site, in the South Bend section and post whatever it is you need. There are about 6 members there that make parts plus user SB latheman has a ton of new old stock that he sells. You can also contact Grizzly Industrial since they own the rights to the South Bend name now, they make and stock a lot of parts for the older South Bend machines. There is no part for a South Bend 9" that can't be bought.

There's also a yahoo SB lathe group. I know I downloaded a manual / parts list for mine before I tore into it.

On the PM SB forum if you search you'll also find some really nice posts with photos of machines as they were torn down. The lockout pin between the half nuts lever and the feed lever was frozen in mine and found everything I needed to take it apart, replace the wicks and be on my way.

I have this book and rebuild kit, and can recommend it 100%. The author is also a super nice guy!

My site (Hobby-Machinist) has a SB forum with a complete parts list and restoration files that will help your friend restore his lathe.

I also recommend the Yahoo SB group.

Best,
