A very good friend scored 2 of these and gave me a 220V 3 phase 3HP Baldor motor!!!

Fits perfectly on my Mill - NOT. So I get to make a mount.
I also get to do the VFD thing and quit changing belts around.

Very exciting!

Here's the motor, she's a big girl.

Here's the plate, you can see if you look, she's made in China. The motor is a solid bit of kit, very nicely made, once I get the mount sorted, it should all work out.

I'll likely have some dumb questions, you've been warned.

That's now an ABB motor.......

Baldor is disappearing into ABB as of last week

As for china, Baldor made some stuff there, and some elsewhere. One presumes that the chinese Baldor is not as bad as the "Happy Laughing Boy" brand motors on Harbor Fright bandsaws, etc....

And ABB is a big multinational company.

ABB is a Swiss-Swedish multinational corporation headquartered in Zürich, Switzerland, operating mainly in the power and automation technology areas.

ABB is one of the largest engineering companies as well as one of the largest conglomerates in the world. ABB has operations in around 100 countries, with approximately 117,000 employees, and reported global revenue of $31.8 billion for 2009.[1]

ABB is traded on the SIX Swiss Exchange in Zürich and the Stockholm Stock Exchange in Sweden since 1999, and the New York Stock Exchange in the United States since 2001.[2]

ABB has one of their plants just down the road from me, a huge factory for making giant transformers and condensors for electrical power stations. When I first arrived in China I was teaching English to their Chinese staff there, who were all delighted to have a new joint-venture partnership (used to be a state-owned factory) with ABB so they could get their hands on all the advanced technology.

Very nice plant, with European management. If these motors come from an equally nice plant then they should be top notch.

I got a flange mount motor and used it to make a new 5 hp RPC a while back. Flange mount motors in 3 ph are not all that popular so I got it cheap. Here's the mount I made. I turned a ring and bolted the motor in. The ring is welded to a baseplate. There is also a strap around the motor. This motor is a Boston Gear brand. I don't know if they build motors anymore or not. Mine was new old stock.

Nice score on the motor!
