Scam...

Delete it and check your system - virus and spybots....

Banks deduct from your account. None that I am aware of send you emails telling you....

disregard it & DO NOT OPEN could be a scam or sent to you by mistake. Since you have no accounts it can't be charged to you.

It is a scam---they want you to reply with your account number(s) so they can really bleed you white. Delete it and run a virus scan on your computer as has already been suggested.

Alistair,

No need to be concerned. It's a feeble attempt to get you to reply and confirm that you indeed have an active e-mail address. They have not deducted squat from your bank account unless you gave them the account number, the transit number and authourisation to do so. Ignore, delete, and enjoy Christmas.

My question would be after the deduction of the $239.00, what is the balance of the account and how quick can I get at it? http://bbs.homeshopmachinist.net//smile.gif

I certainly won't answer it My son warned me about opening anything I didn't know or understand so I never do.If I don't know who sent it, I don't download .
Thanks so far guys.
I did a virus check but all is ok I guess they wanted to know if I was at this address or who was at this address Alistair

A bot that records passwords, and all typed messages is the ones I am scared of.

Running Linux I have less worries, having a router in the middle makes it harder, having a cable box firewall makes it even harder.

Run a bot check, hit cntrl, Del, Alt and check to see what programs are running in your windows..... Spybot that Thrud posted worked quite well after I surfed some porno sites.

Inform Scotland Yard of it - I am sure they have an internet fraud division like the FBI or the RCMP.

One thing you should do is turn the security features of your browser up to paranoid and if reciepts are requested by senders set it to "always deny"

Two points the scam, and the problem....

Same scam, said 236.00 charged to my credit card for being a child porno solicitor, or a money launderer. NEITHER OF WHICH I AM!!!!! They asked for my card number, and had a "button" for "Do you agree with this charge - Yes (button like windows) or NO. I saved the e-mail, and actually did a "note pad" check on it - checking the language (more to this, just FYI, but simplified) Had I pressed no, there was "W.klez" awaiting my computer to be released. Yes hooked to a web site, and e-mail address, and a cookie.

Deleted all cookies and files manually after this mail arrived, not just by "tools".

Delete this, send forward to your authorities, whatever.... The Problem...

Problem with that scuzzy SPAM AND SCAM BS. The US, Brits, whatever country can make all the laws they want to prohibit span, scam. This will cover all of this within the country the law is passed in. However, most spam and scam is now sent by the spammers to Nigeria, or other third world countries, then spammed from there. Most scams are from Nigeria, or other countries in the neighborhood.

Alistair: I read some where that, AT BEST, if you had replied they would have offered to remove the "charges", and they would "admit" they had mischarged.THen its "Problem is, we can't find the account number itself now. please send us the account number so we can refund". Course then, your account WILL be charged and your balance goes to zero. You did right- if the mistake was made with a pen it can be corrected with one if you are dealing with honest folks.

There was probably a "Do you agree" button on the bottom of the e-mail. DO NOT CLICK THIS, IT ADDS A SPYWARE PROGRAM TO YOUR COMPUTER. DELETE THIS ASAP....... NO ADDS IT, YES ADDS IT.

A friend of mine and myself checked out this type e-mail via notepad and html, found an .exe file attached to both "buttons". I have not clicked this.... kept the e-mail in a special folder though for reference and to show how this works to others.......

...........
THIS IS THE SCAM E-MAIL I GOT
..........

"Running Linux I have less worries, having a router in the middle makes it harder, having a cable box firewall makes it even harder."

Running a Mac makes them roll their eyes and move on to the next PC. :-)
