My Christmas gift is a HF. horizontal, verticle bansaw, I really like it a lot, sure beats hacksawing, the vice it comes with has a wivle feature for angled cuts, becuase of this, the vice cannot hold any workpiece less than 2" in length, I need to cut small pieces of stock, sometimes 1" or smaller, so my newest project was to build a work holding jig to hold those extra small pieces of stock wich the jig could be clamped in the saw vice. So here is what I came up with, and as a test run, I gripped a 1" X 3/4" piece of aluminum and cut 3/16" wafer off of it, then I made another cut and cut a 1/16" wafer as well as bringing the stock down to a rough finished dimension of 3/4" square. It worked excellent.

here is the jig not loaded.

Using my strap clamps from my mill heres the jig when loaded with a small piece of stock.

Those are traditionally called "Finger Boards" - because they keep you from losing Fingers. They are handy for man handling small parts that have additional operations such as reaming or tapping or even milling. Guy Lautard has an excellent design for smaller parts in one of his "bedside readers".
