I am wondering whether HSM'ers here can offer any knowledge about
Morton lathes.
This FEL 1460 is reputedly a '90 model and is equipped with a D1-6
spindle, taper attachment, coolant pump and a 5 Hp (3ph) motor.
It may have a 2" spindle bore. Appears to be an asian machine.
Asking price is $3,700 CDN.

A search reveals that Morton is currently represented in Canada by
PowerMaster. They list a FEL 1460HG and describe it as a Heavy
Duty Precision Engine Lathe (http://www.powermaster.ca/manual2.html)

That looks like a pretty solid machine. I'd give $3700 for that one. (If I couldn't talk them down a little first).

Yes, my 1440 is one of the more sturdy examples, but this 1460 is a step
beyond.
Looks good in the photos. A little patina but tidy - oil in the headstock
and apron sight glasses appears to be the right colour.

Morton is taiwan made machine thats distributed mostly by Frejoth to companies like Acra, HQT and many other medium sized distributors. Good machines, often comes with cast iron base which doubles machines weight.

It is a Lux-Matter machine. I have the 13 X 40 version that is sold by Enco under the Turn Pro name. It was purchased new in 1996 and has been a very good lathe.

Thanks for the link.
There only appears to be 1340 and 1440 machines in the Lux-Matter
line-up presently, but there is still a strong family resemblance

Hardtail, this machine is somewhere near the Reynolds Museum. Isn't
that just up the road from you?

LUX machines look more like chinese copy of Morton machines, these are also sold by harbour freight, enco, etc.

I was looking at purchasing a number of these for an educational instituion. I looked at them in a College just out of Toronto, and they were very happy with them ( some 5 years old). They looked well made, and robust enought to survive test of apprentices. Check with Powermaster for users (Good people). Also STANCAN ( Stanko) sells them out of Edmonton, if you need info.

My Lux was made in Taiwan. There is a Chinese copy out there sold by Enco and others. You can tell the Chinese one by the two speed motor switch in the base cabinet, here is a link,

Pat, thanks for the remarks and feedback about PowerMaster/StanCanada.
Mark, thanks for the link.
The price of the new 1340 and 1440 machines reflect the value of the
used 1460 in the OP. The 1460 is a good deal heavier in the bed and has
a cast base, not to mention the 5 HP motor, D1-6 spindle and taper
attachment.
If the machine proved to be in as good shape as it looks, ...

I do not need it, but this seemed like too good a deal to pass up.
While I was considering locations to store the machine temporarily,
either someone purchased it or the owner had second thoughts.
The adv on Kijiji had been pulled when I checked this morning.
