Hi guys,
I have just got a job lot of Colchester screwcutting gears.
These are for the round head and square head machines and are the type that have a shallow 8 spline fitting.
All are 16 DP.
Amongst this lot is one 127 tooth metic translation gear that isn't splined but normal bore with pin holes.
Can anyone tell me what the correct numbers are for metric cutting on a Colchester or it's US equivilant, the Clausing ?

John: As a one-time Colchester wannabe owner, I have the manual for an 8006, 11x30, Clausing-Colchester (it has the six position stick shift next to the R-S-T lever).

The metric gears are:

for the "V" gear in contact with the 127: {35, 42, 49}

for the "W" gear in contact with the (outermost on bushing) 120 gear: {60, 36}

for DP cutting, both gears contact a 120 gear: {66, 36} and all diametral pitches are chosen by the lever and shifter.

If you want the actual lever positions (R1, S5, etc.) post back and I'll post them here (but might not be today).

added : this machine has a 4tpi leadscrew

Have a 15” Clausing-Cohlchester lathe, 6500 series. Don’t have the 127 tooth gear (wish I did).
There is no mention of part # for 127T gear in my manual for this lathe. Copied below is the only mention of the 127T gear that might be helpful. The manual does have a chart for gears needed and position for metric thread cutting. Could email you copy of this if you like……….. gary hart

“Remove 120T idler gear from brass sleeve. Place 127T gear on brass sleeve followed by 120T gear. Slide sleeve with compound 127T/120T gears on idler gear stud: be sure 127T gear is next to quadrant.”

For the Colchester Dominion/Master round head machines (16 pitch ½ face 14-1/2 pa.) 27T, 30T, 33T, 42T, 127T. (.5 mm to 7mm) This machine has a 6TPI leadscrew, with a feedbox.
Your 127 gear can be ordered from Browning for about $50 (#ncg-16127) you will have make the bore fit.

Many thanks, I'll check and see what there is in the box.
Had a quick look tonight and although all the smaller 24 to 50 odd tooth wheels have been used they are decent but the 127 is a brand spanker.
I'd like to get the set together and put these on Ebay as I don't have a Colchester lathe and they would be better off being used as gears and not paper weights.

Eddie, No sign of the 'package' as yet
