There's one thou in a thousandth. A thousand to a unit. Units could be inches, millimeters, miles, gallons, etc.;)

It seems to matter whether you say thou thousand thousandth thousandths etc etc or am I wrong again seriously we never got this at school this is engineers terminiology only not used in woodworking.A thousand im metres is a mm 800mm is exactly eight hundred mm. seems to be easier to me. Usually thou is 1/1000, meaning one thousandth. Thousand is 1000. Thousandths is many 1/1000, like 8/1000.
