    Simple Design for Portable Gantry Crane

    Saw this on Craigslist and thought it was worth sharing.

    At this size I probably wouldn't lift anything over 500# or so, but it could probably be built with heavier materials for heavier lifting.

    Keeping it all perfectly vertical and you would be amazed how much that would pick up. Never pull at a angle from vertical.. always lift straight up.

    My idea would be to add angular tensioning cables to the outriggers and up to the top, with turnbuckles to tension..

    Another idea would be to weld Split tubes to Contain the vertical pipe so it would not Spit out the side if you did twist the beam.
