Looks like an internal server issue.

I can tell you that the descriptions are in one database, and the titles are in another. That separation is part of what lets you search over 200 million items in a second. It's quite possible that there was a problem with one of the databases that has since been corrected.

* Required disclaimer. I don't speak for eBay, and they probably don't care anyway. They pay for my toys and keep me off the streets.

There was a problem awhile back where unscrupulous sellers would take a picture from another listing and use it for their sale. Sellers started to complain.
I wonder if that has anything to do with it.

I really don't remember the full story behind the name. It did mean something to the founder. He wanted 'echobay' but that was already taken.

RE; the reused pictures...
Personally I don't see that as a problem, providing that appearance is not an issue and the person actually has that product for sale. Sometimes getting a good picture is frustrating. Is it really doing any harm to use a picture from the web or a manufacturer? I guess it might seem unfair to someone else who is selling a competing product.

Just my thoughts and opinions, of course.

re-used pics is fine for something new

but with the stuff we are selling is often unique ..

says on wiki echobay ..like you said

also says first sale was a busted laser pointer .........you couldn't sell something busted on ebay anymore without repercussions ..even if you put in huge capital letters that it was busted ..people now afraid to list stuff like this ..because of you refund policy and people taking advantage of it .

im one of the ones that liked to fix busted stuff ..sad isn't it

Nothing that exciting. Ebay was the web site created by Bay Auctions.
