Just a reminder Oregon Gears expo is Sept 24th and 25th in Portland,OR. I have no connection, however, am going to Portland tomorrow so thought I would go for a few hours and humble myself.

I will head up tomorrow as well for a last bit of summer fun,
school starts up again on Monday so coffee break is over.
The EVEM booth folks would be able to finger me,
but I seem to like to spend time out back
with the cheap tools and casting demos

So I went to Oregon Gears today and as expected I feel humbled. Lot of talented people out there making stuff. Mostly single cylinder gas and steam engines. There were a couple of multiple-cylinder radial scale airplane engines, a scale online six cylinder Honda motorcycle and perhaps a dozen V-8 s. One guy was really reving up an inline four. I kept waiting for parts to scatter! There were many vendors of casting for these engines. There was also a metal casting demonstration. Oddly enough I think my favorite engine was a Beamer hot air engine http://www.jerry-howell.com/Beamer.html which I had never even heard of before. There was a vendor for a Quorn grinder castings and a man with a small gear hobbing machine. There were DRO-PROS, LittleMachineShop representatives and books for sale by Powells, a Portland book seller icon. I didn't have a camera but saw a few folks shooting pics so I expect photos and better information will be available.

I have a bunch of 1080HD video that I will post as soon as I get it edited.

The person selling the casting kits was Gary Martin of http://www.martinmodel.com
