Digital Machinist’s CNC Workshop for 2012 will be held in Ann Arbor, MI from June 21-23. Wednesday, June 20 will be a setup day for the vendors and exhibitors and will likely be the start of any build classes we may have.

This year there will be a two-tiered price structure for the Workshop. One price will get you in for the entire event and all the seminars, and the other price will be for admittance on Saturday only and a few select seminars. This should help out those who may be unable to get away from work, etc. during the week.

Prices and registration details will be announced shortly.

You know me too well Steve. Of course, you were right, so I decided to hold off until I had a few things firmed up.

I’ve now updated the “sticky” thread at the top of this forum to reflect the dates of this year’s event. We will be able to take reservations for the Workshop, but are only placing names on a reserve list for the mini-mill build class at this time.

Off to the Cabin Fever Expo in the morning. We'll be able to register people for the Workshop while there; stop by the booth and say hello.

Hi George,

I'm trying to decide if I'm going this year because I have to schedule some vacation time.

I really enjoyed last year's workshop and I learned a great deal. But I pretty much got to attend all the seminars I wanted to see and I'm wondering if there's going to be enough new ones this year to justify making the trip from Rochester NY.

Are you expecting to have many new topics or presenters? And if so, when can we start hearing the details?

Hello Rob,

I’m sure there will be a few new speakers, but many of the ones from previous years will be there as well.

From past experience, I know that it can be tough to get a clear idea of the seminars very far in advance but I am planning on starting in on the lineup in the next few weeks. I’ll start posting seminar titles as they are firmed up, but I’m sure I won’t have all of them set until the very end.

Here are some topics that I would really enjoy:

1. REPRAP add-ons for CNC machines - how to add a plastic extruder to a CNC machine as an accessory (removable).

2. Pneumatics - last year there was an impromptu session on Pneumatics 101. I would love to have a session again along those lines. Perhaps a hands on part where you can play with the bits and pieces.

3. Advanced Vectric sessions - the sessions from Vectric are often well attended but aimed at those considering using the product. How about a session or two for those who own VCarve or Aspire who already have some of the basics.

4. Any interest in a Vectric Users meeting - no agenda, just share ideas and answer each others questions?

Last year there was a tour of a maker workshop that made me wish I did not live so far away. One year later - how are they doing? Maybe we need some hands on sessions there in the evenings at their location?

Thanks

John

Hello John,

I’ll see if I can’t answer at least a few of your questions.

1) Not sure if there will be any Reprap type machines at the show. I have been trying, but no takers so far.

2) I spoke with the guy who did the pneumatics just the other day. He’ll be at the Workshop but any talks are still in the may or may not happen category.

3) Vectric will not be attendance this year. Bob Campbell is currently trying to pull together something for a demonstration but is just now in the beginning stages of pulling it all together and the outcome is not yet certain.

4) We will space available should any users wish to get together for Vectric discussion. Other user groups are welcome to hold discussions as well.

5) I had lunch on Monday with the two Maker Works partners and it sounds like they are doing very well. They have a good number of people involved and have pretty much all of the machines in place and running. They are set to get their CNC plasma cutter up and running soon.
