Another Hollywood actor with MILLIONS in EVIL BANKS, who made their money from MOVIE CORPORATIONS, yet they're protesting with the 99% losers?
Typical Hollywood hypocrite.

What's this OWS? ...I'm not up on my current events these days.

I remember back during the winter olympics, in BC/Vancouver, seeing Donald Sutherland being interviewed about Canada's performance(s) and as I recall he was well bearded at that time.

Though that doesn't really look much like a winter scene; can see green shrubbery in the background.

But I think I'll go with Sasquatch's explanation.

The OWS protests in Canada are ridiculous. We have one of the best economies in the world right now. There is nothing to complain about.

As for me protesting, I think not. I make my money in the market, most particularly the oil business. So do a lot of the people that are "protesting", at least indirectly. There are a lot of familiar faces, mainly professional protesters that are paid to be there.

Anyway, 'nuff about politics.

My philosophy is I don't want to lead or follow, just stay out of my way.

http://www.washingtonpost.com/rf/image_606w/WashingtonPost/Content/Blogs/comic-riffs/StandingArt/occupyanderson.jpg?uuid=kG7wbvabEeCcJkOtdSHgLw

Ironically, on Tuesday Citibank settled a quarter of a $billion fine for the infamous "dogsh!t" mortgage fund they were selling as a fraudulently AAA-rated investment, but secretly taking out credit default swaps betting against the fund.

SEC settles massive case against Citibank misleading investors-$285 million the latest round.

This story concerns the 1 billion collateralized debt obligation (CDO) tied to the U.S. housing market by Citi’s broker-dealer subsidiary which misled investors. Citi bet against the CDO’s making $160 million in fees and trading profits. $500 million of the assets were included in the CDO Class V III portfolio. Citi did not disclose the risk to investors. Here is how Citi higher-ups described the portfolio:

One experienced CDO trader characterized the portfolio as “dogsh!t” and “possibly the best short EVER!” An experienced collateral manager commented that “the portfolio is horrible.”

I've never caught my beard on anything, yet. That's my winter beard from a couple of years ago. I start growing it really long about now. It keeps my face from freezing. In the summer I keep it a lot shorter, it provides protection from the bugs. The only thing I really have to watch out for is lighting it on fire when I light my pipe.

Actually I support the protesters

The fact the same banksters who bankrupted the entire country and then soaked the Tax Payers for a $1Trillion Dollar Bail-Out have never seen the inside of a prison cell just desturbs sane people.

The fact disinformation artist are so apt at spinning the reality of the situation to fault of the protesters speaks volumes of the intellegence and integrity of the Keyboard Commando / Talking Heads parroting the dis-information spew.

As Barnum said their is a sucker born every minute - the fact we see so many intellectually lazy individuals parroting Rush Limbaugh's disinformation is concrete proof of this fact

..........Nearly the whole nation is laughing at these clowns.

I've thought from the first that the ONLY response "Wall Street" would have to these protesters would be to laugh at them for a couple of seconds and then totally ignore them. So what if they protest? What is going to be done because of it? Nothing at all is what...politicians aren't going to bite the hand that bribes them.

Evan
10-21-2011, 11:54 PM
I actually sympathize to a degree. What is and has been going on in the markets these last few months is a giant version of the small cap "pump and dump" scam. The markets are being manipulated daily to create huge volatility. You can't make money on the market if it doesn't change so bumping it up and down (pumping) is how you create opportunity IF you know what is going on in advance.

There have been some overt examples such as the rumors spread by short sellers to intentionally crash a particular stock and then cashing in because they went short the day before. What we have now though is large players playing the entire index. There are suggestions that index derivatives should be banned and I agree with that. It is nothing more than pure gambling with the game fixed by the really big players. I also think that there should be longer delays imposed on day traders between trades, especially computerized trading.

There are also some suggestions that shorts should be banned but that is unfair unless you also restrict longs. That isn't a bad idea either since playing the shorts and longs is just another form of gambling.

The problem with the way the markets work now is that they don't just allow speculation but they encourage it. They also allow extreme leveraging which is where a lot of the problems originate when things go bad.

Canada's banking regulations are stricter than any other in the world. Our tier 1 banks cannot exceed leverage ratios greater than 20 while US and Swiss banks are allowed 33.3. What that means is our banks must have much greater amounts of actual capital on hand to handle liquidity crunches.

The real problem is in Europe where other than the Swiss there are no uniform leverage caps. With the level of volatility being seen at the sovereign debt level banks with large sovereign debt exposure can be wiped out in a day.

There are a lot of rule changes that must be made and strictly enforced if we are going to avoid even bigger problems in the near future. Unfortunately it is much too late for a lot of countries, including the US, to avoid some very difficult adjustments.

That's more-or-less what Brother Muammar thought...... but now he's dead and the "protesters" are in control......

The protestors are sometimes a bit silly, but fundamentally they are 100% correct.... the bankers et al are the ones who actually and directly CAUSED the situation that threw so many folks out of work, and out of their homes.

yet, the big bankers have not suffered at all...... They are, in most cases, happily investing the bonuses they got for raping the nation..... and counting their multi-billion dollar profits..... Even the most notorious of them, the ones in the middle of the shady mortgage, CDO, and CDS mess, have not been prosecuted for anything.

This has not stopped them from downsizing more of the "little people"........

At some point this is going to get nasty, when some of the out-of-work folks bust in and drag out some bank executives......maybe they toss a rope over a tree, maybe not. I think it may well happen. It is probably what some of the bankers truly deserve, even if I don't agree with doing it.

Forget al-qaida..... we've got bank execs who have already done more damage here than anything al-qaida has ever wished to do.

Evan

True democracy doesn't and cannot work for a multitude of reasons.

It is much too time consuming.
The participants cannot all be qualified to decide all issues.
Agreement is difficult or impossible to reach.
Not all participants want to be involved in all issues.
Most issues have more than one solution.
Many issues are decided based on value judgments rather than absolute facts.
Values/beliefs are often confused with facts.
Most people are followers whose opinions may change in the course of discussion, making agreement impossible.

And, many more reasons...
