Hi Group,

Sorry about the off topic post but I'm hoping that someone can help me.

Something happened to my files and now I need a copy of IE 5.5. Does anyone know where I can download a copy - MS doesn't have it on their site anymore.

Any help would sure be appreciated!

Mike

Wierdscience,

I run my internet on an old computer which uses windows 95. Apparently I got a virus that really messed up everything. I had to format my hard drive but the version of explorer I have is 3.1 (or something like that) - what a pain!

Thanks for the suggestion though.

Try a computer store and ask if they have an old copy of the magazine disk from Maximum PC. I know I do and it will have the IE 5.5 installer on it.

Mike,
If you can go to:

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/search.aspx?displaylang=en

and search for the version you need.

If you don't have a internet browser, open a DOS window and type in the following:

ftp ftp.netscape.com

userid is anonymous
the password is your email address

at the prompt type binary

then change directories until you come to the windows directory and download a copy of netscape, then run it. With Netscape you can go to the microsoft webapge for downloads that I list in the above area.

Do not go back to Windows 3.1, it can be painful. If you have Microsoft Office, I think Internet Explorer is that package.

Hope these help.

Son of a gun, it's still there. Even though it says for ME it should work on 95. If you don't have a working web browser get someone to download mozilla firebird from www.mozilla.org. (http://www.mozilla.org.) It requires no install and can even run from a CD.

Evan,

The old browser I'm using doesn't show the hyperlinks on the site you listed above. Would you mind telling me where the download link is. They just show up as white spaces.

I sure appreciate your time.

Mike

Go to http://www.microsoft.com/downloads

Type in Internet Explorer in the Keywords window. IE 5.5 will show up as the seventh item on the results page. However, if you are using an older browser like Netscape 2 or 3 or IE4 or earlier you won't be able to view the page. Time for plan B as I outlined above.
