Never could find a source for plated aluminum oxide wheels other than 46 grit.
Anybody ever made plated grinding wheels or know the process or adhesive used to bond the aluminum oxide abrasive to the plate. Would a shop made plated wheel be any more dangerous than running the mystery green wheels that came with my HF tool grinder. I have diamond wheels on my Baldor.
My surface grinder uses 12 inch wheels that have a 3 inch arbor hole. Could take a worn down one glue it to a plate, dress it to size. If this is doable, I could make wheels from 46 to 120.

Also my Sellers drill grinder takes 5 inch plated wheels.

Who supplied the 46 grit wheels? I don't see how that is possible since aluminum oxide is a VERY good insulator. That would seem to be an obstacle to the plating. Glueing would be a no-no in grinding wheels . Even epoxies have an upper limit on temperature.

I'm not sure what type of wheel you want but my wife sells all metal aluminum oxide coated wheels in all grits and up to 8" diameter. They are a cup shaped wheel with a depressed center, steel, with grit on the face, not the outer circumference. The grit surface is about one inch wide and about 1" protruded from the back face of the wheel. They are used on surface grinders and some guys use them on bench grinders too.

If you want to discuss them send me a PM. My wife can get just about anything you need.

I think you are talking about a type 53. This is not an electroplated wheel. I don't see it being of much use on a surface grinder since the peryphery is not useable.

Sorry for the confusion, I should have given a better description of the wheel. I believe it is a type 50. Also I should have said plate mounted instead of plated. I have several 6 inch 46 grit. Would like to find some 80 and 100 grit.

Here's one:

Also just found some, $50 each.

Would still like to try and make one.
