It seems like every time I find a problem with my lathe, I find another problem I have to fix before I fix the first problem. Today I was turning an arbor to use to true a pulley. I finally got sick of the terrible finish I was getting and decided to investigate. I put an indicator on the chuck. It varies by .005 as you spin it. I took the chuck off and indicted the spindle and it seems true. Put the chuck back on and chucked up a center drill. Put the inductor on it, and spun the chuck. Same .005 out, with the high spot in the same place on the chuck. Its a threaded chuck and I can't see ny bur or damage tht would prevent it from tilting true.
How do I troubleshoot and fix this?
