On the BP J heads and J head clones the power quill feed has a kick out that stops downward travel when the depth stop is contacted. Since the power quill feed can also be reversed via the directional knob being either pushed in or pulled out (depending on the rotation of the spindle at the time) and the quill power fed back UP. What is the danger to the gearing if the quill is allowed to reach it's upper limit of travel, under power feed, since there is no "kick out" for this direction? (other than moving the feed engagement handle by hand)

Or am I missing something and there is a disengagement mechanism built in for the upward power feed?

Thanks

3t,

My B'port and my Kent clone both have a shut-off built in for downward and upward feeding. Just try yours at a slow speed and see if it shuts off. Be prepared to shut it off by hand if the stop doesn't do it for you.

When feeding up the depth stop nut will push against feed reverse trip plunger which will trip the feed, if it doesn't the reverse trip ball lever is probably broken this is a common broken item, it can be difficult to remove if broken but it can be done. Go to www.hqinc.com find "B" series quill housing locate item 67 and 68 top right hand corner that is what I'm telling you about.

Thanks guys, works just like it should. I think that last night when I tried it I "chickened out" and disengaged the power up feed by hand BEFORE it had a chance to kick it self out of gear.
