Well, I have just recieved my free issue of Home Shop Machinist. Great read!!! But I see they also have a magazine entitled Machinists Workshop. Whats the difference?
Thanks,
Chris

First, thanks for giving the magazine a try, I hope you enjoy it. I get this question quite often and admit that the two titles share a great deal in common, but there are some differences.

First, all gunsmithing articles run in Machinist's Workshop, never in The Home Shop Machinist. This is a big deal for some people and is one of the main reasons for the two separate titles.

We also typically place the non-machining metalworking articles in MW, such as blacksmithing, welding, foundry, etc. However, these subjects will be seen from time to time in HSM.

Also, the articles in MW tend to be a little shorter, with very few multi-part articles. The projects are usually a little simpler in MW as well.

A finally, MW is a little smaller than HSM, with a corresponding reduction in subscription cost.

Hope this helps.

George

Chris,
What George didn't say is that you really need subscriptions to both magazines, as they only are published every other month. That way, you get your "fix" on a monthly basis.

Of course, if you'd like to build Wes Bye's magnetic geared clock, you'll also need a subscription to Digital Machinist. Be sure to specify that, so they send the 2 back issues, then start your actual sub with the Summer issue.

It never ends.....

And thanks George!!! Im impressed that a mag actually offers a free trial issue. Its awesome. Im hoping to get my paper back to you this week.

The magazines complement each other and are worth having if for no other reason then the available tool porn. These are high quality paper/printing magazines that you don't see much anymore. Collectable for the real addicts out there.
