View Full Version : OT- Appliance Repair (Defrost Thermostat)

I have an old (42years) Sears Coldspot Ref/Freezer in my garage which needed the defrost thermostat replaced.
My neighbor has a shade tree business dealing and fixing used appliances for apartments and such, and provided me (free) a canabalized thermostat which I installed and it's working fine, or appears to be.

But after looking at various internet sources I see the range of opening/closing temperatures is all over the map. It makes me wonder if I should just go ahead and cough up the $30 or so for a new one spec'd for this machine, ...OR from a practical view, does it really matter that much.

The one spec'd for my unit opens at 70f and closes at 12f. I have no idea about the one my neighbor gave me

Any thoughts?

Just my personal opinion. If it is working, don't worry about it.
