I'd like to get a hold of a Granite Straight Edge (but metal will work great too) with around a 24" length...
I'm restoring a bridgeport style mill and need something for the knee and column. Are there any good sites to buy from?
It would also be nice if i could find one that will fit into the dovetail :)

Thanks guys!

I know I'm beating a dead horse but if people would put there location in more people could help, for example I have a 36" camel back straight edge with 1 edge machined on an angle, but I'm not going to offer it to someone in a foreign country where shipping is going to cost an arm and half a leg.

If the OP is not interested in this angled st edge, I may be...:) I have been looking for one with the angle on one side for some time at an affordable price - please check you PM.

what accuracy do you reckon you need?

ebay, Steve Thomas at practical machinist, Challenger precision (be sitting down when you see the price) or make one.

For the dovetails, anything more acute the angle you have works, ie you only spot one side at a time....as such a piece of mill durabar might be better than a camel back with an angle edge from a usability, maneuverability standpoint - sort of hard to describe if you haven't done it but you've got to hold the reference in position and with a camel back there's going to be a bunch of extra weight working against you when doing the angle dovetail. Not insurmountable, but a reason why the durabar ones work well. That's what i have, some camelbacks for flats and V's and big hunks of durabar for the dovetails.

ebay, Steve Thomas at practical machinist,

Ebay or Stephen Thomas' camelback will require that you're able to spot a 36" length (~34" for Stephen's). That requires a surface plate > 2' square...

Sorry about that :-)

I'm in El Cajon, CA USA...

I'm thinking i'm needing a grade "A" straight edge for this project. Thanks again!

True enough.

I suppose that weight and portability might be an issue for the OP.

What does a 36" camel-back straight edge weigh?

Here is Shars 24" granite straight edge - no weight given but is Grade A.
