View Full Version : Boring Head Question

I'm in need of a boring head. I found one locally that is a Cat 40 CNC boring head for (I think) a reasonable price.

My mill has an R8 bore and i know the Cat 40 will not fit.

My question is if it is likely that the Cat 40 shank could be replaced with an R8 shank. I would ask the seller, but it is part of an estate and she knows nothing of tooling. Looking at the picture of the thing, I cannot see that it is likely the shank and body are one piece.

The markings on it are CT 40 1-1 2-18-50.

Thanks, Dennis

Hi Dennis

I have just bought a boring and every one of the ones that were shown to me had an arbor that could be unscrewed from the head.

Impossible to say. Some do, some don't. I have examples of both.

If you can find the make, that might give some indication. If it's a Wohlhaupter, then the shank should be interchangeable.
