Hi all

Have an usb drive that needs data recovery for the first time after using usb drive for years.

Found demos that show the data, I am look for free or low cost recovery software.

The usb drive files are from links from The Home Shop Machinist & Machinist's Workshop Magazine's BBS.

Was switching to new computer used cut from old computer and I know better to use cut but this one time I thought it would be ok.

Here are a couple of recovery programs that are free. Both will work on your USB Stick.

Win Utilities Undelete free...

Easus free data recovery...

Of the two, i like EaseUS

Its worth while having two "memory sticks" (USB drives) and to copy to one and then back-up/copy and changes of that drive to the other/second drive. There are plenty of utilities on the web that will copy/compare/synchronise any one driver (or just files or folders) to another drive.

I rarely use memory sticks as I use IDE or SATA HDD drives connected to a USB port on my computer.

TestDisk is supposed to be a good program. I have not tried it myself. It's free but works from the command line.
So it will require a bit of knowledge of DOS commands.
Here is a link to a step by step tutorial.

I have used PhotoRec from the same company on several occasions to recover pictures from USB drives and camera cards
and it recovered files that other expensive programs could not.

Good Luck!
