I sometimes use 1" endmills to face off parts on my mill. Typical speed on mild steel being 400 rpm's MAX. Is there any reason for a very light finishing cut of a couple of thou that the rpm's can't be jacked up some to get a better finish.

You might be able to get away with it with plenty of coolant. Otherwise you will burn off your corners.

I do that sometimes as a rough and finish pass on side milling. But like Macona said, you do excellent coolant flow. Brush on or misting won't do the job. And I only bump up the speed no more than 20% of roughing rpms. And most times less than that.
