I see his foot in the last picture.
Maybe it's an antique Treadle Lathe.

LOL, Nope I'm not allowed to say that here.

No need to even use it. Buy it / bin it.. That cuts out all the unnecessary B.S. of actually using anything till it's wore out then binning it. Maybe it's an artifact Sir John unearthed during his recent shop dunging out?

Flylo should be bidding on that lathe so he can give those new micrometers a work out.

It's quite obvious from the last picture that the lathe has fallen over and possibly suffered damage as a result. It also lacks any form of safety guard. Since neither of these points was mentioned in the advertisement, I feel the seller can not be trusted.

I was at an autumn festival at a local botanical gardens (Kew) a few years back. At one stall, the fellows constructed a treadle wood lathe from raw materials using hand tools in half an hour. Usable, presentable, basic, commendable, quite as good as that piece of attic find.

I'm withdrawing my bid as I was led to believe it WAS the New Grizzle/SB lathe. I like the idea of an easy to scrape bed & high quality bearings. Top quality all the way!

If that's worth $1500 I'm loading truck & trailer & heading to Ky. Can I set up a maching tol stand in your front yard Dr Stan? I really don't eat much I promise.

"fraid you'll have to go a bit farther south as the lathe is in the Nashville, TN vicinity. However, if you pick me up on the way maybe we can find some good BBQ. Ya know we could head on over to Missouri and see if Papa Griz wants his prototype returned.

Seriously, it probably is fairly old , or at least as old as I am ( circa 1948). And, it would make a nice display piece for my antique thingy shelves in my living room. There is, admittedly, a problem with the price.

                            And after you burn it,
you can easily dig the tailstock handwheel
                            out of the ashes. LOL

Just think of the patina it will have then?!!!

It would easily be worth $1500 if it still had the original taper attachment.
