I just got my hands on ANOTHER sweet deal.
Over 15 Lbs. of unused, 'new-to-me' Carbide Inserts. :D
A retired machinist didn't want them taking up space in his garage anymore, so they were mine for the taking.
I did buy him lunch, however.
Total take: Over 100 VNMG-432's , Over 100 TPG-322's, 30 RNMG 43's, 20 SPG-422's, 20 SNMG-432's, and 15 TPG-434's.
Not a bad deal.
I'll be selling some on Ebay until I pocket enough dough to afford a nice VNMG-432 Holder, and possibly a facemill for the TPG-322's.

Nice catch!

You see what volume 15lbs of carbide takes up. Imagine what a 55 gallon drum filled to the top would weigh. I saw just that at the salvage yard a few years ago. Although used, most showed no obvious wear and only a few visible were chipped. Where ever they came from must have just changed them on a regular maintenance cycle. I grabbed a handful and have been using them since. A little diamond honing and they were good as new.

Was he a home shop machinist? If not, how do you suppose he came to have them in his garage?

I think he "obtained" them from his workplace via the old "Five-Finger Discount".
Most of them were still in their old GE-Carboloy cardboard packaging.
I removed the packaging because of the water damaged, and stinky mess.
Some people swipe stuff for no apparent reason.
