Didnt want to dig out the old Sketchup thread ... sorry for the new one.

anyways ...

Prob for Evan ...

Are there any plugins or even books that deal with the aspects of Sketchup and
mechanical drawing. Everything I can find deals with house building. Some
furniture tutorials which are as close as I can come. But would be nice to see
some instructions on bearings, gears, hinges, and other machine concepts.

Anybooks out there ?

Plugins exist. At the Ruby Library Depot there are free plugins for converting 3D drawings to 2D views all nicely arranged on a 2D plane. There are plugins for gears with and without centre holes with keyways. On the 3D warehouse there are many collections of mechanical parts from the manufacturers already built as 3D models.

Here are about 350 free bearing models from various manufacturers:

Here is a tutorial on designing gears including double helix and bevel. It also has a link to the plugin (free).

You are very welcome. I have plenty of time and much less money.

Here is the main listing of plugins on the SketchUcation forum. You have to sign up to download but it is all free.

Here is the home base for tutorials. Many are free online.
