I have a little Mesa threading insert toolholder and need a few inserts for it. Does anyone recognize them and if so what would the industry standard number be? They come in left and right: MT-3-TL and MT-3-TR is the Mesa number.

The picture doesn't show it but the other end of the holder is set up to hold the insert at 90 deg. for cutting internal threads. Pretty clever, methinks.

This from the HMEM website;

"I queried Jim Wilson at Mesa tool a year or so ago about his inserts and he told me they're not available anyplace but from him as he designed them and has them made elsewhere (I presume offshore, but don't know). His early inserts chipped too easily, but he's since improved them (either the design or the material) and they do a great job in most metals."

Thanks Dave; I wouldn't have thought he could have them custom made in relatively small quantities and still be able to sell them for $7.75 each but who knows?

The chipping problem is one of the reasons I was looking for another source.

Does not help but that is about what I find too (didn't know about the question posed on HMEM site), most all of the "on edge"/"stand up"/"top notch" stuff I could find was triangle shaped. The stuff of similar shape (Iscar predominantly) uses a "grip" system, not screw hold. The Nikcole mini-system is close but have no dimensions of Mesa to compare, Whizcut makes something similar but again, doubt they match dimensionally. Found a Mitsubishi holder (TTAH) that looks like it uses a similar insert but could find no other reference to the inserts themselves.

Hey guys... I do have my inserts custom made for my tools.
I have been dealing with a new supplier for several years now, and the quality is top notch.
Nikcole Mini Systems has a good variety of inserts that do fit my tools......JIM

Thanks for the reply Jim.

I purchased a few inserts from you after starting this thread and they're doing great.

Another happy customer.:)
