View Full Version : To Settle an Argument

My nephew (who is not a machinist) says he once saw a bench model Bridgeport with a factory Bridgeport label on it. It is my contention that Bridgeport never made a bench model mill; I believe Clausing did, and I've actually seen a small Hardinge horizontal mill ... but a Bridgeport ? My nephew is a pretty smart cookie so I am 1/2 prone to believe him, but I haven't had any success searching the net for info so far.

Any thoughts?

Bridgeports had a reciprocal arrangement with Adcock and Shipley in the UK where they made Bridgies under license and Bridgeport sold A&S machines in the States badged as Bridgeports.

Now I don't know if A&S made benchtops but according to lathes.co.uk the Model 0 looks as if it could be bench mounted.

Does this help ?

It's not uncommon to see a Hardinge TM/UM with a Bridgeport M-Head mounted on the overarm. Maybe that's what he saw?
