I have been doing some fine threading and such for a stage adjustment. The junk that is sold by Grizzly, H.F. and the like is O.K. for some things, but today proved out what those who have come before me have said.
I had a 1/2 x 32 tap and die, import quality. Guess what; they threads they cut are not the same. One is slightly off from the other, if I was doing this for a crush on fit, never to be undone again, it would be O.K. But this was making a stage control for another machine, that would get lots of use. I need the fine movement.
So I went over to my local industrial supply place bought a name brand set of taps and a matching die.
I wish to thank all of those who have tried to steer us away from buying junk.
