It is a "vintage" book. Sellers have a belief that it has a multiplier effect on the price.

I see this all the time with pinball and pachinko machines. I call it "fishing for a sucker". Given enough time, he might actually find one. It doesn't help that if you list something twice and it doesn't sell, ebay will let you list it for free until it sells. All you need then is patience...and a sucker.

I can buy a piece of old iron for that price and work out the speeds and feeds using discount tooling and Excel... and have enough left over for tacos and beer.

I suspect they made the book that long to disguise the fact that no one has actually figured that out yet.
