Ray,
Good link, We had a great big universal 50 taper Cinncinatti vertical / horizontal mill at the mine that vice would be maybe large enough for. I figure that mill was at least 8,000 pounds minimum. You could easily lay a Bridgeport down on the table. If I ever win the lotto?

That's not a milling machine vise, it's a planner vise. Wish I had the extra coin as it would be a great addition to my 9' Cincinnati planner.

If you are talking about the 16" Vintage but New Japanese Milling Vise, it looks like a shaper vise to me.

Agreed i thought it could be a shaper vise also, but according to Dr.Stan it is a planer vise.

Curious what it weighs.

Shaper & planner vises are just alike other than size. Given its size I doubt if it was made for a shaper.

How big of a vise do you need for a 1000mm shaper?

How big of a vise do you need for a 1000mm shaper?

Probably about the same size as I need for my 3 meter planner.
