I picked this Mitutoyo up for $25.00 not a huge gloat but he did say he was a retired tool and die maker and had a bunch of stuff to sell me (two rolling tool boxes worth). Iím going to meet with him and see what he has.

Interesting. I presume he's got the 0-1" rod in there and it's the extra one that he's ground the point on. And the other extra rods? So that just in case you need to modify one for a skinny or pointed end? He must have really been one for hedging his bets. Nice score in any case and good luck on big cache.

I got 2 depth gauge cases from a retired machinist. Neither had the actual gauge, but both had most of the rods. I've got extra rods for my Mitutoyo, and I gave the others to a co-worker that had a gauge they fit. I figure they might come in handy to modify, and they fit in the case, so no extra space is taken up by them.

Nice score jeremy13.

Yes the extra 1” rod is in the mike. I also picked up a Starrett 1” depth mike with a foot only on one side for 10$. Small little thing but looks like it will be great for the mill will fit under the cutter and get a measurement.
I’m going to try and see his stash of tooling, fixtures and micks this weekend.
