I took a ride on the White Pass Railroad. Impressive feat of engineering. Have lots of photos and a few movie clips. Bought a DVD while there. I look at it from time to time. Worth the cruise to Alaska, that and the floatplane tour of the glaciers outside of Juneau.

I took some slides of the station and rolling stock in Whitehorse during the summer of 1957. Unfortunately, Ektachrome was all the rage then, and it was NOT Kodak's greatest invention. On a siding by the station were several open cars of silver concentrate. Even if someone helped themselves, there was nowhere to take it, (and silver was only about $1.00/oz back then!)
I understand that that railroad operated at a profit from the day it began, in spite of the horrendous construction costs.

Beautifull country there!! And agreed, a great engineering feat, much of it done by hand labour.
