I'm planning to get a part cut by waterjet oversize, and then I will mill it down to size. Does waterjet leave a layer of embedded abrasive particles that will dull my end mills?

Not that I'm aware of.

It leaves a layer of rust on steel, and rust is somewhat of an abrasive (rouge).

I don't think much of the entrained abrasive is left, especially if you brush off the rust from the edges first.

Hi,

The limited experience I have with machining water jet cuts, (reworking slightly oversized parts), indicates no difficulties with wear. And I haven't ever bothered with cleaning the surface as J Tiers suggests. Though that may be a good idea and certainly won't hurt.
