View Full Version : Small Linear Motion Gloat

I went to the Sea-Pac ham fair this last weekend in Seaside, OR. I mostly go for the flea market. It is pretty small by most ham fairs but I usually find goodies. A couple years ago I found a tiny Yaskawa 1/2hp VFD brand new for $25.

This year I found something too good to pass up, some parts out of a wafer probing machine. The haul consisted of one massive cast iron frame with special matched THL linear bearings, a very nice preloaded THK ball screw and a Mitsubishi 200W servo motor, and another motor of the same type with another nice ground THK ball screw. They also threw in another small aluminum casting with a couple more linear rails and blocks. $130 for the lot.

The screws and rails are in great shape, absolutely no backlash. The cast iron casting must weigh about 50lbs. Funny, I had been thinking the night before how I had found a mitsubishi servo motor at another swap meet and it would be nice if that happened again! I have to say I did get some "what the heck is that" looks when I was carting out my haul.

I have a couple 400w drives that run the same series of motor but unfortunately with the MR-J2 series and newer drives you cant put motors that dont match the drive rating so I am going to sell them off to get the right drives.
