No I am not discussing our four legged supervisors.

KBC has the Machinist's Friend on sale for $32.64. I was wondering if any body has a copy and what they tink about the program.

Thanks,

Jerry

Jerry,
There are quite a few of these programs around and they are all very similar.

I use one called Machinist Mate from
http://www.wadeproco.com/index.htm.
It seems to have a few more things than the Friend version but lacks a couple.
Usual 30 day trial and then $15 to register.

I know we all have different aims in what a program needs to do but I find the trig solving virtually a daily job. Machinists Mate is the only program I have seen that does dovetails and sprockets.

I found it when I wanted a program to generate a sprocket without having to draw the tooth shape from scratch. Believe it or not but there are no commercial programs, even high cost ones to do this. Machinist Mate did this straight off and proved that the shape my customer had sent was wrong. The $15 fee more than made up for this mistake.

On registration he says he will give you three passwords so you can use it at home, in the shop and work. In truth if you need another number after say upgrading he'll give that no trouble and it's free upgrade for life.

There are a few of these small programs around that really make life easier, another one is Convert from http://www.joshmadison.com
That's a freeby that will convert almost anything to anything.
