My Yankee push drill is one of my favorite tools, but over the years some of the drills for it have gone walkabout. Garrett Wade sells a replacement set of drills for $24.95 + $10.95 shipping, which seems a little steep for 8 small drills.

A saw a YouTube video of a guy who sells a replacement 3-jaw chuck for the Yankee push drill. It replaces the existing chuck and looks pretty good. I tried removing the existing chuck on mine, and it wouldn't budge, so that option was out. Besides, I've got a machine shop in the basement.....

Dremel sells a small 3-jaw chuck (part # 4486) for under ten bucks that looked like about the right size. So I made an adapter.

I measured the screw mount for the chuck as 0.178-40. I screwcut that on one end of a short rod, copied the chuck end of a drill on the other end of the rod, and the result was this:

Very nice! Looks like it will increase bit selection a lot. That was the only disappointment I have with the yankee drills, pretty limited bit selection unless you make them yourself.
I know modern versions are available that use 1/4 hex bits, but I'm partial to the old original Yankee's.

You should make up a few, I'd guess there would be a market for them. No idea how many Yankee drivers I've seen without bits.

The Dremel shaft measures .278x40. Is that the same or close enough for a 7mmx.5 die? I love those little chucks and want to use one on a small home built drill.

The 7mm looks like it might work (0.2756 vs 0.278), but 0.5mm is about 51 tpi. and that would be way off. You need more like 0.635mm pitch.
